Archaeological Studies

Archaeology in Mauritania is a very exciting field not just due to the wealth of artefacts in the country, but also because of the real possibility of finding something new. During a survey for one of our clients, our archaeologist discovered hitherto-unknown ancient rock carvings and fossilised elephant footprints in the north of the country.

In addition to providing an archaeologist, we can also advise on the national and international laws relating to archaeology and cultural heritage.

As our archaeologist works full time for the Mauritanian government, we ask our clients to give advance notice of proposed field expeditions, so that we can book his services.

We aim
to use local expertise wherever possible. Since Mauritania is francophone, this means that reports will be written in French but we can translate these into English should this be required.

Our company policy is that all artefacts found in the field should either remain where they were discovered or be handed over to the Mauritanian government.
