Mauritanian environmental law requires the promoter of an EIA to keep the government abreast of the EIA process during the writing of the EIA report. This also includes having to inform the regional governor, mayor, local population and other relevant organisations of the EIA being carried out.   Keeping the government informed of new developments and progress in the EIA is
